Volunteering in ACUI makes me a better college union and student activities professional. Engaging with peers in the work of the Association forces me to get outside my home-campus bubble which in turn encourages exploration and personal growth that my campus and students benefit from.
Time Commitment
Association leading volunteer positions require a commitment of two or more years, except for student positions which have a one-year term. Over the course of the term, volunteers should anticipate at least four hours of conference call and project work per month, in addition to attending in-person ACUI Leadership Team meetings.
Qualifications
Those in association leading positions must have: full-time employment at a higher education institution; institutional membership; a signed institutional support form; and a commitment to fulfilling the duties of the position for the length of the term. Students in association leading positions must be: a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student who is not a full-time employee at the institution; involved in a college union/student activities department; not set to graduate the upcoming May or August; committed to fulfilling the duties of the position for the length of the term.
Limitations
To advance the strategic goals of ACUI, individuals in an association leading position shall not serve in any additional leading, planning, or serving volunteer positions. If selected or elected for an association leading position, individuals shall resign from other positions, except by specific approval of the Board of Trustees. Approval will not be granted by the Board of Trustees for any combination of roles that pose a fiduciary conflict of interest. Association leading volunteers are welcome to participate in additional contributing and engaging opportunities.
ACUI is all about connections, and volunteering for the Regional Leadership Team connects me in so many ways. I've learned new things about our profession and the schools in our region, grown closer to the Association and all that it offers, and become friends with some pretty wonderful people.
Regional leading volunteer positions require a commitment of two years, except for student positions which have a one-year term. Over the course of the term, volunteers should anticipate at least 4 hours of conference call and project work per month, in addition to attending in-person Regional Leadership Team meetings.
At the time of application, individuals must have: employment at a higher education institution; institutional or individual membership; a signed institutional support form; and a commitment to fulfilling the duties of the position for the length of the term. Applicants must also demonstrate an understanding of ACUI’s vision, core values, and core competencies, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
Limitations
To increase the opportunities for involvement in ACUI’s regions, individuals in a regional leading position may not also serve in a regional planning position, unless designated to support regional planning activities for a specific purpose related to their regional leadership position.
